Open Factur-X now →Factur-X is the French-German e-invoicing standard: a regular PDF file with an embedded XML according to EN 16931. Since 2019 it is technically identical to ZUGFeRD 2.x – the same format under two different names depending on the country.
For the recipient, a Factur-X file looks like an ordinary PDF. The difference is inside: a structured XML contains all invoice data in machine-readable form, enabling automated processing by accounting software.
Factur-X was developed jointly in 2017 by the Forum elektronische Rechnung Deutschland (FeRD) and the French FNFE-MPE. The goal was a unified hybrid e-invoicing format for the German-French economic area. From ZUGFeRD 2.0 (2019) onwards, both formats are technically identical – only the name differs.
In Germany it is called ZUGFeRD, in France Factur-X. In the XML, the profile is identifiable in the namespace: urn:factur-x.eu:1p0:... (Factur-X) or urn:cen.eu:en16931:2017... (EN 16931 compliant, both standards).

France is introducing a B2B e-invoicing mandate in phases from 2026. Factur-X is one of the accepted formats alongside UBL and CII. For the specific implementation obligations in France – timeline and exceptions – it is advisable to check with a qualified tax adviser or the French tax authority DGFiP.
For the German market: a Factur-X file in the EN 16931 or EXTENDED profile meets the requirements of § 14 UStG as a structured e-invoice.
digital-rechnung.de automatically extracts the embedded XML from the PDF file and displays all invoice fields in a structured view: sender, recipient, invoice number, line items, tax amounts, payment due date and bank details – no upload, no account.
If you are unsure whether your PDF is a Factur-X file: just upload it. The tool automatically detects whether an embedded XML is present. Regular PDFs without embedded XML are displayed accordingly.
Technically none – Factur-X is the French name, ZUGFeRD is the German name for the same format from version 2.x onwards.
