Convert to PDF now →For an XRechnung, the XML original is considered the authoritative document – not the PDF visualization. The PDF reading copy is an aid for human readability, but has no independent legal binding effect. The BMF confirmed this in its letter on e-invoicing.
It is different with ZUGFeRD: here, the PDF and the embedded XML together form the original. Anyone who stores only the PDF view and loses the embedded XML no longer has a complete invoice record.

Not every accounting software displays XRechnung content in a readable way. For internal approval, printing, or filing in systems without XML support, a PDF visualization is useful.
digital-rechnung.de creates a reading copy with one click – all fields (sender, recipient, line items, tax, bank details) are clearly formatted, without upload.
According to § 147 AO and § 14b UStG, invoices must be retained for tax purposes for 10 years. For the specific procedure in your bookkeeping – especially regarding GoBD requirements (immutability, procedural documentation) – it is advisable to consult a tax advisor or your accounting software provider.
What is clear is this: the XML original is the invoice record. An additional PDF copy does no harm, but it does not replace the XML.
